There is an aromatic plant that can be found in Crete since the ancient time.  People tried to cultivate it outside Crete but all in vain.  This plant’s scientific name is called Diktamnus origan (Origanum Dictamnus) or called Dittany. 

Since the old days, Dittany has served as a panacea to various diseases and as a healing of wounds.  Due to its physicochemical properties and particularly of the active element of carvacrol, Dittany has antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial properties.  It can nourish and hydrate dehydrated skin.  The plant’s healing properties are also certain because of the quantities of thymol found in its aboveground parts.  Thus it is a good natural remedy to skin problems, like eczema, acne. 

Dittany was not extensively investigated scientifically on its properties.  However after a long investigation, BIOselect, at the disposal of the Pharmaceutical Department of the University of Athens, finally succeeded to demonstrate the living proof of Dittany’s medicinal properties to consumers.  Cretan Dittany was also recognized by the official European herbal monograph on Origanum Diktamnus by the European Medicines Agency as medicinal plant due to its unique properties.    

Due to its scarcity, collection of wild Dittany is prohibited.  BIOselect has specially cultivated it for production in certified organic farms.
